The Speakeasy Red is a creative blend coming from three separate vineyards. 65% of the wine comes from our Marian’s Vineyard Zinfandel planted in 1901 on its own roots. Approximately 15% of the blend is Barbera from the Leventini vineyard in Lodi, 5% is Mohr-Fry Ranch Petite Sirah, and the balance comes from our estate vineyard in Amador County. All three vineyards are “Certified Green” under the Lodi Rules for Sustainable Winegrowing. The Lodi Rules takes a comprehensive approach to address the overall health of the vineyard and ecosystem. The farming standards go beyond just pest management to promote practices that enhance biodiversity, soil and water health, and employee safety
This is our 3rd vintage of our Speakeasy Red. It’s a fun wine to make. We throw out all the rules and simply go through all our barrels to put together the best blend that we can. This year’s wine is once again about 65% Marian’s Vineyard Zinfandel, followed by Barbera, Petite Sirah, Tempranillo, Souzao, and the “secret ingredient.” As you know, it couldn’t rightfully bear the “Speakeasy” name without a secret ingredient.
“The 2013 vintage is an authentic full-bodied red with ripe berry flavors, spice, and underlying earth tones that reflect the sun-drenched vineyards of Lodi. Enjoy the journey!”
